Open doors at Widnes Masonic Hall Widnes Masonic Hall put on an Open Day to give the people of Widnes had a wonderful opportunity to have a look round
and see the lodge rooms, Masonic regalia and other Masonic items on display, talk to Masons and ask questions and also see
the function rooms and talk to the caterers, Sugar and Spice, about the wide range of private function that they can cater
for. Assistant Provincial Grand Master Ian Boswell spent quite a bit of time at the open day and took questions
from members of the public. There was also a visit from the Mayor and Mayoress of Halton, Councillor Keith Morley and Mrs
Sheila Glynn who were given a guided tour of the hall and were impressed with what they say and with the answers to their
questions. Councillor Morley said that he appreciated the work done by all the Masons of Widnes in raising funds to help local
charities. Before leaving, Councillor Morley was presented with a cheque for £200 by Group Chairman David Redhead for
the Mayors Charity Fund. Also present at the open day were representatives from West Lancashire Freemasons Charity
and the Soroptimists who were able to give detailed information about the work their organisations carry out.
In order to keep the hard working volunteers going throughout the day and to give the visiting public refreshments, Sugar
and Spice generously provided tea, coffee and biscuits and a small buffet at lunch time. As an added bonus for
the visiting public, a free raffle was held with the winner, Joanne Mullarkey getting a bottle of whisky and Paul Lund getting
second prize of a bottle of wine.
