A FRIENDLY WELCOME - this is the phrase uppermost in Jack Thompson’s mind when he recalls his first encounter with Kingsway
Lodge.
And, that goes back long before he even
joined.
He says he first came across the Lodge’s
reputation for friendliness when he was taken by a colleague as a visitor to a Kingsway meeting.
That put Kingsway firmly in Jack’s sights when his former lodge closed
and he sought a new one. He knew instinctively where he would like to be. Now, five years later, as he starts his first year
as Master of Kingsway Lodge, he says he wants to help perpetuate the “fiendly” tag and make it the lodge people
would love to join or visit socially.
His first
opportunity is on Saturday 11 February when he and his wife Jean host Ladies’ Evening.
Another key to Jack’s love of masonry is companionship. “I’ve
met some of the most genuine, honest friendly and interesting people through being a member,” he says
Throughout his time in masonry he has always been quick to acknowledge
the help and support of Jean, who, he says, has been marvellous in helping him and coming up with ideas, especially on the
social side.
Another event Jack is looking forward
to and is proud to be associated with is being Master to help the Lodge celebrate W,Bro Bill Jackson’s 50 years in Masonry
at the next Lodge meeting on Monday 13th February. Although it will be almost a normal Lodge meeting ( Bill doesn’t
want too much fuss) Jack is determined to help make it a memorable occasion for a mason who was among the first to help establish
and build Kingsway’s reputation.
Jack also
wants to extend a wider welcome – to anyone interested in Masonry. He would like them to give Kingsway Lodge a chance
to provide them with a first taste of the Craft.
