HISTORY: Early in 1956, 24 likeminded brethren got together and resolved to form a new Lodge. They called it Bold Lodge because it was a local area and the name belonged to an ancient local family. The only proviso being that permission should be obtained to use the family crest which was a Griffin rampant. (A Griffin is a mythical cross between an eagle and lion). The consecration of a new Lodge is a joyous occasion and 24 founding Brethren enjoyed themselves immensely. The first Worshipful Master was Harry Owen.

FAMILY: Early in its inception the members’ wives formed a social committee to promote the raising of money for charitable purposes. This committee continues to this day. Over 50 years, circa £120.000, has been raised and donated to worthy causes.

MEETINGS The Lodge meets the first Wednesday in the months of October, November, December, February, March, April, May and June.

INSTALLATION MEETING: The installation meeting was held at Widnes Masonic Hall at which there were over 50 Lodge members and guests present on Wednesday 2 December 2009, to install the new master for the coming year. The outgoing master David Lace gave an excellent performance in installing Bill Isherwood into the chair for his third occasion. The Lodge was honoured by the attendance of our Assistant Provincial Grand Master, Dennis Rudd.
During the ceremony, David Lace presented cheques to the following causes; Masonic Festival 2010 - £150, Ecclesholme - £150, Widnes Masonic Hall - £150, Claire Hospice for Children - £160 and Cancer Research - £200.
At the Festive Board, in responding to the toast to Grand Officers, Dennis Rudd paid tribute to the Installing Master and all the Brethren who took part in the ceremony.
Whilst the Installation meeting took place, the Ladies and their guests met at which they held a General Knowledge Quiz & Raffle with a buffet being served.
During the festivities for the evening, the sum of £261 was raised from raffles, the Master, Bill Isherwood and his wife Hazel decided this should be donated to the Cumbria Community Foundation, “Cockermouth Disaster” Fund.
